Hold OKC Homeless Services Accountable for Fund Allocation

Hold OKC Homeless Services Accountable for Fund Allocation
The Issue
I am outraged and heartbroken by a recent experience with the support systems in Oklahoma City. My friend, who is homeless, was discharged from OU Medical after a life-threatening injury with nowhere to go. Despite having Medicaid, the medical facility did not arrange a ride for him, and he was forced back onto the streets, risking further injury or worse. This is a failure of a system that's supposed to protect and support our most vulnerable citizens.
It’s infuriating that local organizations like Homeless Alliance, Catholic Charities, and Diversion Hub, which claim to advocate for the homeless, are receiving around $50 million annually. Yet, when my friend sought help, these groups failed to provide even basic advocacy or temporary shelter options. The excuses range from being "too full" to stating that they simply can't help, despite having vast resources. Meanwhile, they focus on new buildings instead of offering practical aid for people who urgently need it.
My friend has tried every avenue to better his situation. He attempted to secure identification required for employment but was met with indifference. How is he supposed to stabilize his life or recover from his injuries when these organizations, supposedly established to offer support, only provide excuses and brush-offs?
I demand accountability from OKC’s homeless services and transparency regarding how funds are being allocated. It's time for them to step up and ensure their budgets actually improve the lives of our city’s homeless population. Investing in warehouses for clothing and electronics, or working more collaboratively with government and community services, could provide tangible help.
Please join me in calling on these organizations to use their vast resources in a manner that genuinely supports those in need. It's unacceptable that while they grow in wealth, our homeless community suffers without basic necessities. Let's push for change and demand they do better for the people they claim to serve. Sign the petition to hold them accountable.
