Hold Nebraska CPS accountable for misconduct

Hold Nebraska CPS accountable for misconduct
The Issue
My two boys were in a situation where they are now traumatized forever. The State of Nebraska acted on hearsay and who they knew, resulting in the unwarranted removal of my boys from their life, mother, siblings, and friends. This has brought nothing but anxiety to us all. I lost my home, my job, and my boys all at once. For the first time in my life, I felt utterly helpless. In my struggle to regain stability, I was forced to remain in Nebraska because my family couldn't move across state lines to prove I had a job and a roof over our heads.
This is not an isolated incident. Nebraska Child Protective Services is currently operating without sufficient checks and balances, causing irreversible damage to families based purely on unsubstantiated claims and biases. Many families, like mine, are suffering because of these hasty and poorly investigated decisions, which are made without any concrete evidence.
False allegations and the mishandling of cases have long-term impacts on families. Children are needlessly traumatized, parents are unjustly persecuted, and families are torn apart. Those responsible for these actions, particularly when they result from inadequate investigation, must be held accountable.
To address this issue, Nebraska CPS must implement a policy change that prioritizes thorough and unbiased investigations. Key actions should include:
1. **Independent Oversight:** Establish an independent body to oversee CPS case processing to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure fair evaluation.
2. **Rigorous Investigation Requirements:** Mandate comprehensive evidence before making life-altering decisions about child removal.
3. **Training for Employees:** Provide training focusing on investigative techniques, cultural competence, and working without bias.
4. **Case Review Rights:** Grant parents and guardians the right to prompt, comprehensive review of their cases by third parties if they believe due process was not followed.
We must protect our children and families from the damages of poorly managed investigations. Please join me in urging Nebraska state officials to hold CPS accountable and demand reforms that ensure fair, honest, and transparent handling of all cases.
