Hold NCERT and CBSE accountable for Class 9 curriculum issues
The Issue
For years, I have dedicated my life to teaching and guiding hundreds of thousands of Class 9 students across India. They are not just my students; they are part of my extended family. I have seen their potential, their dreams, and their aspirations. However, they now find themselves in turmoil, all because of the oversight and mismanagement by NCERT and CBSE in fulfilling their educational duties.
The current academic year has been challenging for these young minds. Despite the new session starting months ago, many of the crucial NCERT textbooks have still not been released. My students are adrift, trying to grasp new concepts without the foundational materials they desperately need. This isn't just an inconvenience; it's a fundamental roadblock to their education that could have long-term implications on their academic performance and self-esteem.
Moreover, the syllabus for the final exams remains staggering and unrealistic. The burden on these students is already immense, and the stress of an extensive syllabus only exacerbates this. Many teachers, like myself, believe that a reduction could not only lessen the stress but also enhance the quality of education by allowing a deeper understanding of fewer topics instead of a superficial grasp of many.
This issue isn't isolated. Every parent, educator, and student in the Class 9 community is affected. Thousands are witnessing firsthand how this is shaping — or rather, misshaping — the futures of these bright young minds. The NCERT and CBSE must understand the gravity of the situation and act promptly. We need:
- The immediate release of all pending NCERT Class 9 textbooks to ensure no student is left behind.
- A thorough review and realistic reduction of the final exam syllabus to allow students to focus on in-depth learning.
- Regular consultations with educators and students to ensure the curriculum remains relevant and manageable.
Education is a right, not a privilege. It's about time NCERT and CBSE uphold this responsibility. I urge every educator, student, and concerned individual to stand with us and demand accountability.
