Hold Myanmar accountable for Rohingya crimes

Hold Myanmar accountable for Rohingya crimes

The Issue

Accountability for Crimes Against the Rohingya People in Myanmar
To:
The President,
United Nations Human Rights Council / International Court of Justice
Geneva / The Hague

Subject: Urgent Petition for Accountability and Justice for the Rohingya People of Myanmar

We, the undersigned,

Deeply concerned by the atrocities committed against the Rohingya community in Myanmar, submit this petition to respectfully request urgent action by the international community to hold the Myanmar military and all responsible parties accountable for crimes committed against the Rohingya people.

Background:
Since at least 2016–2017, the Myanmar military (Tatmadaw) has carried out widespread and systematic attacks against the Rohingya minority in Rakhine State, including killings, sexual violence, mass displacement, and the destruction of villages.
These actions have been recognized by the United Nations and numerous governments as potential crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide.
Over 700,000 Rohingya have been forced to flee to Bangladesh and remain in refugee camps under dire conditions.

We therefore request:

1) International Accountability
That the International Criminal Court (ICC) or other competent judicial bodies investigate and prosecute individuals responsible for crimes against humanity and genocide against the Rohingya people.

2) Protective Measures

That the UN Security Council take urgent steps to protect any remaining Rohingya civilians in Myanmar and to prevent further violence.

3) Support for Survivors

That international donors and agencies increase support for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and elsewhere, ensuring access to food, healthcare, education, and pathways to safe resettlement.

4) Justice and Repatriation

That any repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar be voluntary, safe, and conducted with guarantees of citizenship, security, and human rights.

5) Monitoring and Reporting

That a permanent international monitoring mechanism be established to track ongoing abuses in Myanmar and report regularly to the UN Security Council and Human Rights Council.

We believe the international community has a moral and legal obligation to act decisively to end impunity and deliver justice for the victims.

Respectfully submitted,
