MetLife Legal Plans failed their contractual obligations during one of the most challenging periods of my life. As I navigated through a continuous and abusive divorce, I faced immense difficulties due to their abandonment. With two special needs children and an elderly parent relying on me, my need for adequate legal assistance was dire. Yet, instead of receiving the help I paid for, I was left stranded without support. Despite their eventual decision to refund my membership fees as an acknowledgment of their mistakes, MetLife Legal Plans never provided full restitution or remediation for the catastrophic losses my family and I suffered due to their repeated failures.

This experience is not unique to me. Numerous clients have faced similar neglect and fraud by MetLife Legal Plans, signifying a widespread issue that affects many vulnerable individuals relying on their services during critical life events. Such conduct highlights a concerning pattern of consumer fraud and negligence that cannot go unchecked. They are not BBB accredited, and have over one thousand BBB, FTC and DOI complaints, combined with previous lawsuits and regulatory agency complaints and fines. They repeatedly fail paying clients during their darkest times. People who use prepaid legal plans are usually not rich. MetLife Legal Plans is supposed to be our voice for legal matters, when we cannot speak for ourselves. They take this relationship for granted and the benefit is a one-sided.

MetLife Legal Plans must be held accountable for their actions. This petition calls for a thorough investigation into their business practices and the establishment of stricter regulations to ensure that no other family endures such distress due to their failures. Additionally, MetLife must be compelled to provide complete restitution to affected clients and implement measures to guarantee that they fulfill their obligations moving forward.

I filed a federal lawsuit without an attorney, and the case is gaining momentum with jury trial dates already set. Judges, mediators, and legal experts are taking notice. I’m doing this for my family and every person who paid into a plan they thought would protect them.
