Hold Madison County Schools graduation at the Coliseum
The Issue
Since I started school over a decade ago, I've dreamed of walking across the stage at the Colosseum for my high school graduation. It represents more than just an event; it's a culmination of 11 years of dedication, perseverance, and countless memories formed within the walls of Madison County Schools. For many of us, this isn't just about tradition—it's about being able to celebrate this milestone in a venue that feels significant and grand.
Recently, I've learned that our graduation ceremony might be moved to our school's smaller football field. This decision, presumably made to accommodate certain logistical challenges, feels unjust and diminishes the importance of this once-in-a-lifetime event. The Colosseum has hosted countless ceremonies, accommodating large crowds while providing a comfortable and memorable experience for graduates and their families.
Unlike the football field, the Colosseum is not susceptible to weather conditions, ensuring a rain-free, smooth ceremony. It has the capacity to host all students and their families without restriction, allowing each of us to share this pivotal moment with relatives, friends, and support groups who've helped us reach this milestone.
Furthermore, Madison County Schools has a long-standing relationship with the Colosseum, having previously held many events in this prestigious venue. It stands as a symbol of academic achievement and community unity. Moving the ceremony to the football field undermines this tradition and disregards the wishes of students and families alike.
In light of these concerns, we propose that the Madison County Schools Board make the necessary arrangements to hold the graduation ceremony at the Colosseum. This decision will not only honor the hard work and commitment of the graduating class but also uphold a tradition that's valued by the entire community.
