The Issue

I am a gay man and a survivor of a brutal hate crime that altered the course of my life. The violence did not end on that day—it echoes forward, shaping how I navigate safety, belonging, and trust in the very systems meant to protect me. These are not distant or theoretical concerns. They are lived realities.

To the Honorable Senators and Representatives entrusted with legislative power:

You have sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States—including the guarantees of equal protection and due process under the law. Those guarantees must extend fully and unequivocally to every person. Yet for many of us, that promise remains unevenly realized.

Thanks to you striving to please Donald Trump, while ignoring your constituents, systemic discrimination persists through gaps in law, inconsistencies in enforcement, and the absence of meaningful accountability.

Harm is not only inflicted through overt acts, but also through inaction—through the failure to close loopholes, enforce protections, and respond decisively when rights are threatened.

When government does not act to prevent discrimination, it does not stand apart from harm—it risks enabling it.

This is not an abstract policy debate. It is a question of whether the law protects all people equally in practice, not just in principle.

We call on you to meet your constitutional obligations with urgency and clarity:

  • Initiate and support a comprehensive, independent review of federal and state anti-discrimination laws, ensuring they are robust, enforceable, and aligned with the Equal Protection Clause. Close the gaps that leave LGBTQ+ individuals and other marginalized communities vulnerable.
  • Mandate standardized, evidence-based civil rights and anti-bias training for all government personnel, with measurable accountability and oversight mechanisms.
  • Enact and enforce a zero-tolerance framework for discrimination and hate-based conduct within government institutions, including transparent reporting systems and meaningful consequences for violations.
  • Be proactive and reactive to ALL matters pertaining to LGBTQ+ citizens and communities. Utilize any and all of your authority, powers, privileges, abilities, methods, options and reputations to both secure and promote equality, justice, protection, liberty, and freedom for LGBTQ+ citizens.

Data from organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign and the National LGBTQ Task Force consistently demonstrate that inclusive policies strengthen economic performance, public health, and social stability. Equality is not only a constitutional mandate—it is a practical necessity for a functioning democracy.

This petition is not a request for preferential treatment. It is a demand for the consistent application of the law.

Legislative authority carries both power and responsibility. The decisions you make—or fail to make—shape whether people like me can live with dignity, safety, and equal standing under the law.

We urge you to act. Not incrementally. Not symbolically. But decisively. We demand that you take action, today.

We demand that you STOP catering to and adhering to the discriminating ideologies of:  Donald J. Trump, the Trump administration, "Christian" Nationalists, "MAGA" extremists, "Evangelical" extremists, hate groups, and the like.

Signatures on this petition represent constituents who are watching, who are affected, who are allies of LGBTQ+ citizens and communities, and who expect leadership that reflects the principles you have sworn to uphold.

We are Americans. We are United States citizens. We are taxpayers. We are no different than anyone else. Yet we are treated like we are beneath everyone else.

In fact, the one and only thing that the federal and state governments do not disrespect and discriminate against us about is the money that we pay to the Internal Revenue Service, to our individual state tax commissions, to local municipalities, sales tax, and our financial contribution to the American economy.

It's truly shameful that in the year 2026, only our money is good enough to the United States of America, we, as human beings are NOT.

Equality delayed is equality denied. The time for action is now. Right NOW.

Thank you-

American LGBTQ+ Citizens, Allies, and Supporters 🇺🇸
