Hold Field hearing in California for tribes to be heard on disenrollment/disenfrachisement

The Issue

The epidemic of tribal disenrollment directly violates the Indian civil rights act of 1968. We are requesting immediate intervention by the senate select committee on indian affairs to hold a field hearing in california for our communities to be heard and to investigate disenrollment/disenfranchisement.

What is disenrollment?

targeting tribal members and their family, removal of citizenship with no cause and malicious intent to deny resources, civil rights and leaving them with no legal recourse usually so the government doesn't have to give that member their share, leaving more money for themselves.

What is disenfranchisement?

Targeted tribal members and their family have not been disenrolled but not given their share, resources or voting rights and are also left with no legal recourse (some after being heard in federal court)

Since the beginning of Indian gaming in the 1990s Californian tribes have seen a rise in corrupt overtakings of tribal governments. The abuse of power by an enrolled member's own federally recognized tribal government targets members by misusing government funds to hire bodyguards with the desire to create separation and to control members marked disenfranchised/disenrolled, by baring voting rights or from receiving resources and in worst cases attempt or wrongful removal from members own housing which could lead to loss of tribal land all together.

It's hard to receive just treatment when your membership is being denied in the first place. Most americans believe tribes are regulated by blood quantum instead of self regulated or self unregulated to the point of committing internalized genocide against its own members. Please Help california tribes to be heard on this issue involving the future of their tribe. Although, you might have just learned about this intergenerational tribal issue that is affecting tribes all over California and Indian Country. We will continue to share our story and the stories of tribal members facing targeted disenrollment. We hope our allies and tribal governments take the steps needed to end the colonized practice of disenrollment.
