HOLD DMPS ACCOUNTABLE AND ENSURE SAFETY IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and concerned community members, are deeply alarmed by the recent arrest of our school district’s superintendent. Reports state that he was apprehended after fleeing law enforcement and was found in possession of a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash, and operating a school-provided vehicle. It has also come to light that this individual had a prior gun-related charge in previous years.

As parents, our top priority is the safety and well-being of our children and the staff entrusted with their care. The hiring of an individual with such a history raises serious concerns about the district’s vetting process, hiring standards, and overall commitment to providing a safe educational environment.

We respectfully demand that the school board take immediate and transparent action to:

1.     Review and revise hiring and background check procedures to ensure no individual with a history of criminal behavior poses a risk to our children.

2.     Conduct a full audit of current staff records to confirm all employees meet the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

3.     Implement stricter oversight and accountability measures for district leadership positions.

4.     Communicate openly with parents and the community about corrective steps being taken to restore trust.

Our children deserve to learn in an environment where safety is never in question, and where leadership upholds the integrity, responsibility, and trust expected of public servants.

By signing this petition, we call on the school board and district leadership to prioritize accountability, transparency, and the protection of all students and staff moving forward.
