“You loved a sport that didn’t love you back” - Luka Đukić, brother of Lazar. 

This petition is to hold CrossFit HQ to better and safer athlete standards, risk assessment & mitigation preparation. 

The world lost a bright wonderful soul & athlete, Lazar Đukić, on 08/08/24 in Dallas Fort Worth, TX during the swim portion of Individual Event 1, which consisted of a 3.5 mile run and 800m open water swim. 

There were multiple risks seemingly ignored or unplanned for - from the way the event was programmed to basic water safety. Open water swimming is not a unique-to-CrossFit activity and precedents set by other sports were clearly ignored to fit the ethos of “varied and unknowable.” 

Sign this petition to hold CrossFit HQ accountable in never letting this - recklessness and poor planning resulting in the death of an athlete - happen again. 

Post-investigation - our community demands: 

• Transparency: releasing what athlete safety standards were, what risk assessment and mitigation was done
• Accountability: Detailed plan of future athlete safety standards with risk & mitigation shared in a publicly accessible web domain
• True partnership: give the PFAA a permanent seat at the table. The Professional Fitness Athletes’ Association is an athlete-led organization and have been advocating to give athletes a voice in safety standards. Lazar was the European representative.
