Hold Citi Bank Responsible for Unfair Credit Card Practices - ( Citi Strata Elite - 4506 )
The Issue
Are you a victim of Citi Bank's recent credit card promotion and account handling?
We are building a coalition of consumers who have been adversely affected by Citi Bank's actions regarding the Citi Strata Elite credit card and other similar offers. Our goal is to document these practices, hold the bank accountable, and seek restitution for damages to our credit reports, finances, and time.
If you have experienced a similar situation, your story is crucial. We are collecting signatures and detailed accounts to support a formal complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and to explore potential legal action.
Summary of the Issue:
In August 2025, Citi Bank launched a marketing campaign for the new Citi Strata Elite card, promoting a bonus of 100,000 points for new customers who spent $6,000 within the first three months.
Many consumers, including the initiator of this campaign, were approved for the card and immediately charged the $595 annual fee. However, their accounts were then restricted or suspended shortly after approval, before any transactions could be made.
Despite the accounts being unusable, Citi Bank:
· Maintained the $595 annual fee charge.
· Required consumers to make payments on this fee to avoid negative credit reporting.
· In all cases, requested consumers sign IRS Form 4506-C to verify income and identity.
· After a lengthy "verification" process (often 30-60 days), accounts were either:
1. Reopened for 24 hour and permanently closed after reinstatement, with no ability to earn the promised bonus.
2. Kept restricted indefinitely.
Upon account closure, Citi Bank has systematically refused to provide a clear, specific reason for its actions, citing "private information," and representatives have reportedly refused to provide their employee identification numbers.
We believe these actions may constitute:
1. Deceptive Marketing: Promoting a sign-up bonus that customers were systematically prevented from earning.
2. Unfair Billing Practices: Charging a high annual fee for a credit line that was immediately rendered unusable.
3. Abusive Account Management & Lack of Transparency: Restricting accounts without prompt cause, dragging out verification processes while collecting fees, and illegally withholding specific reasons for account closure.
4. Discriminatory Treatment: Reports from consumers indicate they were subjected to inconsistent and potentially discriminatory treatment based on their background or demographic, a serious concern we are actively documenting.

Let's hold Citi Bank accountable for their actions and demand fair treatment for all customers. Your action will help build a stronger case with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and other Protection Bureaus as well. and in a future lawsuit against Citi Bank.
