We write today's update with heavy hearts, as our sons have now been reported missing since early October. The days have turned into an agonizing blur, filled with worry and countless sleepless nights.
Each passing moment feels like an eternity, and the uncertainty weighs heavily on us. We want to make it clear how deeply distressing this situation is for any parent; the inability to know where your child is or if they are safe is a nightmare we wouldn’t wish upon anyone.
Despite our desperate attempts to reach out for help, we have encountered barriers that seem impossible to overcome. Both the police and the Department of Child Services have informed us that, according to current legislation, children over the age of 12 have the right to self place and self-advocate.
While we understand the importance of fostering childrens' independence, it feels profoundly inadequate in our time of crisis. The very system that is supposed to protect our children seem powerless, leaving us feeling even more lost and frustrated. It's a painful reminder of how vulnerable we can be as parents when faced with legislation that has placed all control in the hands of minors while removing all rights from us parents.
As we navigate through this emotional turmoil, we find we are clinging to hope. We know we must keep fighting, keep searching and keep reaching out, even when it feels like no one is listening. We are sharing our story in the hope that it raises awareness about the struggles that many parents face in similar situations and emphasizes the need for support systems that truly safeguard our parental rights while safeguarding our youth.
We are two distressed mothers requesting help to spread the word. We desperately need to bring our boys home.
