In Queensland, laws regarding self placing of children from the age of 12 upwards have raised concerns among families who feel helpless and distraught as they are left with no control over trying to keep their children safe
The current legislation allows for children to make decisions about where they want to selfplace without the input or approval of their loved ones, leading to situations where families feel marginalized and excluded from important decision-making processes.
This lack of involvement can result in families feeling disconnected from their loved ones' well-being and can exacerbate feelings of powerlessness and distress. It is clear that there is a pressing need for reform within the Queensland legal system to ensure that parents are afforded more rights and opportunities to participate in the self placing process for their children. By advocating for changes to these laws, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and supportive framework that prioritizes the needs and wishes of both the teens and their guardians.
