We have reluctantly returned to our home after being told it is now “safe”—a claim backed by a falsified air quality test conducted by an unlicensed mold assessor hired by Balfour Beatty. Originally, Balfour Beatty agreed to replace our upholstered items due to the extensive mold contamination at our request. This was a recommended action to us by medical personnel as well as our licensed mold assessor, who originally found our cause of illness (Excessive Mold) and started this debacle. However, after we spent $6K+ replacing our upholstered belongings, they refused to uphold their initial agreement unless we signed away all future property liability and agreed to a non-disclosure agreement pertaining to this nightmare.
Adding insult to injury, Balfour Beatty had a contractor pack our household to include going through our belongings without our knowledge. As we had been advised by multiple mold experts to remove our upholstered items needing to be discarded due to the severity of the mold exposure. They are now at the curb with necessary signage to keep others safe until bulk pickup removes. Thankfully, we have hired an independent state licensed mold assessor this week to determine if our home is truly "safe" as they claim.
The moral of the story? Balfour Beatty does not care about the safety of military members or their families.
Military families deserve safe housing and accountability—not deception, negligence, and intimidation tactics. Military families should not be provided unsafe housing enviroments and then be told they should "appreciate all the effort" in correcting the unsafe conditions. Especially, when most efforts are in violation of state law and circumventing the correct safe methods of restoring healthy living quarters. We will continue to fight for the truth. Stay tuned for updates.
