Hold An Individual Accountable for Animal Abuse

Hold An Individual Accountable for Animal Abuse
The Issue
VICTORY!!!!!
He has pled guilty to three counts of animal abandonment and neglect and has received a fine. While many feel the consequences should have been stronger, this outcome sets an important precedent. We are grateful to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Prosecutor, and the many supporters who took this case seriously. Most importantly, the three boys are safe, well cared for, and now thriving in homes where they have hens of their own and the lives they deserve.
Update: The individual responsible has been charged with 3 counts of animal neglect/abandonment. They knew exactly what they were doing when they dumped three roosters in the middle of a heatwave with no water, no food, and no shelter. They left them to suffer and die—then filmed it, laughed about it, and proudly posted it online for all to see.
In our eyes, this deserves full felony charges. We’re not backing down, and neither should you. The petition stays up, and the pressure stays on until justice is served and these charges stick.
We are a group of animal lovers who firmly believe that a crime against any creature—regardless of how “desirable” society deems them—is still a crime. On August 2nd in Jasper County, MO, an incident of animal abuse took place: three young roosters were abandoned on the side of County Road 180, left to fend for themselves against extreme heat, predators, and starvation.
The act was brazenly recorded and posted to social media, with the perpetrator openly identifying themselves. While one person’s direct involvement is unclear, they acknowledged knowing what had been done by commenting on the post. Authorities claim there’s insufficient evidence to convict—but we strongly disagree. If this crime had involved dogs or cats, the legal response would likely have been swift and severe. This double standard shows how society undervalues the lives of certain animals.
Animal abandonment is illegal and inhumane. Leaving these roosters in such conditions didn’t just subject them to suffering—it also risked harm to the environment and the community. Chickens released in the wild can disrupt local ecosystems, spread disease, and cause traffic hazards.
There were many humane alternatives—animal services, local farms, sanctuaries—but cruelty was chosen instead. That cruelty must not go unanswered.
We call on Jasper County authorities to reconsider this case and pursue stronger charges of animal cruelty and violation of animal welfare laws. Let’s show that cruelty to any animal is unacceptable.
Sign the petition. Demand accountability. Stand up for the voiceless.
