Hey everyone, Thank you guys so much for your support on this topic! We are very hopeful your support will lead to a true conversation about this statue of Thomas Jefferson, and that it will stay. Regarding counter protesting, here's the deal: - WHERE/WHEN: David S. Mack Student Center, Plaza Room. It will start at 12pm NOON. - Students are allowed to counter protest tomorrow in the Student Center Plaza room, where the original protest is now being held. I had an at length conversation with the Dean about this. Let me make this abundantly clear however, it is CURRENT HOFSTRA STUDENTS ONLY. I realize we have some supporters who don't currently attend Hofstra, and I thank you greatly for your support. However, all students will need their Hofstra ID to get in, so bring it. Anyone who is not a student will be escorted off the campus. - Also important, due to school policies, we are not sponsored by any group. Any student who chooses to show up for counter protesting is doing so of their own accord, without a club organizing this. You are allowed signs, NOT on sticks, however. And MUST BE APPROPRIATE, NO SLURS, CUSSING, OR OTHER NASTY NAMES. You have the same Freedom of Speech rights you would have at Hofstra on any normal day. - If you come, and please do, we are there for CORDIAL discourse. I understand things may get heated, but please try not to yell or call anyone names. And ESPECIALLY DON'T GET VIOLENT. We are there to make a point, and have a REAL conversation as to why the statue should stay. That's it for now, I will keep everyone updated. Please, come!
