Hockey is for everyone, Except kids and fans that care about their personal safety.

The Issue

We the undersigned here by demand PNC Arena, The Carolina Hurricanes and the National Hockey League to enforce and uphold the PNC and NHL code of conduct and protect their fans.

According to the NHL code of conduct,
“Fans are entitled to enjoy the hockey experience free from disruptive or inconsiderate behaviors or unruly actions. Fans may not interfere with other guests, the event, and/or athletes in any manner. Fans shall refrain from using abusive language or obscene gestures.”

PNC arena’s code of conduct reads, “Proper behavior is expected from all of our guests. Obscene language or gestures, abusive/rowdy behavior and physical confrontation will not be tolerated at PNC Arena and will be cause for ejection and/or arrest.” “Violation of PNC Arena policies or state/local laws may result in ejections, fines, and/or prosecution. In addition, violators may be barred from future events at PNC Arena.”

The undersigned feel that the following testimonies and public record sited below are undeniable proof that these standards are not being upheld. Additionally, the undersigned believe that any further inaction by PNC arena, The Carolina Hurricanes and/or THE NHL to bar the offenders mentioned here condones and promotes this behavior and makes PNC Arena, The Carolina Hurricanes and the NHL liable for any physical and/or psychological harm that may come to fans, including children in the future.

The Carolina Hurricanes, season ticket holder in row the sponsor of the “hero of the game” and frequently seen on the jumbotron and during intermission broadcast on Bally Sports along with, are menaces to society and act in direct opposition to the “hockey is for everyone” mantra.

For more than a year, fans, especially children have been subjected to harassment, abusive language and threats due to in action by the Carolina Hurricanes and PNC to enforce their code of conduct and protect their fans.

This and their guest have been seen and heard on numerous occasions yelling and cursing at children and parents that go down to see the players warm up. Most recently, as of 2/25/23 they were heard screaming that they needed to “start slapping people upside the head and would bring a gun to future games to keep kids from the glass at pre-games”. On the same night, another guest whom had a 6-year-old and 11-year-old child as well as 6-year-old nephew with them was told by that she was going to “physically remove” his child from standing near the glass because “couldn’t see”. Still another guest had his 7-year-old niece cursed out because they were standing at the glass during pregame with a sign. Another guest had security called on their children for standing at the glass with a sign and all of this was just in one night. The behavior however started long before then.

Another guest, in December of 2022 had their little girl called “trailer trash” because she was excited to see the  players warm up pre-game and was standing by the glass on the sidelines near where the offenders seats are located.

These are only a few of the dozens of RECENT examples of the behavior that has been allowed to continue since at least May 20, 2021 when himself was given the privilege of sounding the siren AFTER having to be separated from another fan whose child was threatened because he and his wife could not see center ice during the warm up over the child’s sign. The child was in the next section over.

Perhaps the most troubling is that was arrested on 3/22/2022 during a game for assault and resisting a public officer. After this arrest however, not only was this welcomed back, repeatedly shown on the jumbotron and on media broadcast but was given “backstage access” to the players and had their business advertised during the games because they sponsored the “Hero of the game”. It is also worth noting that just previous  to this buying their season tickets and agreeing to sponsor the "hero of the game" that they received $184,212 in PPP loans. Loans that are forgiven easily forgiven as long as the money is spent on "advertising" or "paying employees" which they are the only ones of. Does this mean this behavior is unacceptable UNLESS you pay a ransom by sponsoring a segment of the intermission?

If had been banned at that time COUNTLESS children and fans would not have been subjected to these repeat offenses. So is “hockey for everyone” or only those can pay?

The undersigned request that. be personally as well as have their company banned from any and all Carolina Hurricanes games.
