The City of Hoboken has long put the southwest district and Andrew Jackson public Housing facilities to the side, to appease the more affluent interests in the mile square city. For a long time, the community has sustained itself regardless of the disregard by local officials for their communities needs.. but following the chain of untimely deaths in the community, the need for a community center has never been greater. 
in the past, the community had a community room, the Boys & Girls club, the STY (Save the youth) Program, Girl Scouts, programs in the multi-service center and more. 
Today, this community has none of these outlets. This petition is to have a City community center opened up and maintained in the Southwest ward of Hoboken with the direct intention of creating equity and strong support systems in the Hoboken housing authority and other marginalized communities within the city. 

Neighboring Cities in Hudson County, like Union City, Jersey City, & North Bergen all have similar centers and community infrastructure. Union City & North Bergen respectively have just funded Community recreation center projects which are similar to this proposition. Hoboken should have no problem following their county counterparts. 

Damon “NuNu” Murray was a shining example of the best Hoboken has to offer, unfortunately on April 28th 2024 his life was cut short. Damon was an exceptional athlete, a Rutgers University student and on his way to becoming a firefighter in the Hoboken Fire Department. This petition and project is dedicated to his memory, had been a community center already. He still might be here
