The Issue

My kids, who usually aren’t alarmed or dramatic about things, came home with a genuinly concerned. Their Japanese classes at Grant High School, have reached an unmanageable size of 55+ students. My heart sank hearing about my Senior’s final year and my Junior’s significant learning years under these conditions.

Not only does this overcrowding prevent quality education, but it also slashes the potential for individual attention and immersive language learning. As you all know, Japanese is not just about memorizing words; it's a cultural experience that demands engagement, conversation, and practice. Smaller/regular class sizes are essential for effective language acquisition, where personalized feedback and direct interaction play a huge role in student success.

We demand that Mr. McGee hires a part-time Japanese teacher to split the class sizes, providing both our children and the diligent teachers a fair chance at achieving intended educational outcomes. This action would not only enhance learning experiences but also reflect Grant High School’s commitment to the JDLI program.

By signing this petition, you will be encouraging school administration to prioritize quality education and respect our children's hard work. Your voice can help ensure that Grant High School provides the resources for a more effective and culturally enriching Japanese language program.

Please sign this petition today to demand the hiring of a part-time Japanese teacher at Grant High School.
