Repeal Hillsborough County Curfew

The Issue

We believe in the common sense guidelines that call for social distancing and refraining from congregating in large groups while the virus is still active. We, however, oppose the 9pm curfew hastily passed April 13 by the Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group (EPG).

The curfew's stated goal was to "send a message" to a few bad actors who were holding house parties and congregating in large groups which was already a 2nd degree misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500 and 60 days in jail. The curfew changes nothing except it now infringes on law-abiding citizens who may want to relieve their dogs before bed or take a moonlit stroll around the block after dinner. The policy will also likely have the unintended consequence of increasing the number of frivolous service calls that law enforcement must respond to.

The EPG will meet again on Thursday, April 16 at 1:30pm. We need to collect 250+ signatures from county residents to convince them to reconsider their actions and reverse the ill-advised curfew.

Please circulate this petition to as many of your friends and neighbors as you can muster and have them sign by noon on April 16th so we can deliver them (electronically) just before the meeting begins.

With your help, we can get enough signatures and reverse this!
