Dear Supporter We have finally given ourselves a name! Insistent Residents Against Toxic Emissions (IRATE) campaign. I have been reliably informed by an experienced council official that a petition frequently counts as one comment when received by a council. To mitigate against this happening, please join me in my pledge to send a complaint letter to the leader of Hillingdon Council. Let's ensure that his inbox is jammed full with at least 475 complaint letters (or if you prefer using Royal Mail, the post bag)! If you have direct experience of the odour, please insert within the template, details of incidences, dates, times, wind direction if known and the impact on your health. We know that under an FOI request that the complaints data held by the council is inaccurate but despite this, it is important that complaints are received by the council because the data received under the FOI request, doesn't reflect the number of odour incidents that residents are experiencing. Below is the template letter. Don't forget to insert the date, your address and name and e-mail to; leader@hillingdon.gov.uk and copy to asbinvestigations@hillingdon.gov.uk Your address Date Cllr Raymond Puddifoot MBE Leader of the Council & Older Persons’ Champion Leader’s Office - Conservative Group Offices Civic Centre Uxbridge UB8 1UW Dear Cllr Puddifoot Re: Complaint Against FM Conway in Hayes I support the Insistent Residents Against Toxic Emissions (IRATE) campaign for Hillingdon Council to force the FM Conway plant in Hayes to improve odour control measures. Residents in Southall and Hayes experience the impact of odourous emissions daily resulting in; ● worsening of asthmatic symptoms ● sore, itchy eyes ● throat irritation ● headaches ● nausea and vomiting The emissions also have an impact on lifestyle as residents are forced to keep their windows shut and avoid spending time in their gardens. FM Conway is contravening their part B operating permit by failing to ensure all emissions to air, other than condensed water vapour, shall be free from persistent fume, droplets and persistent visible emissions. I urge Hillingdon Council to treat the emissions as a statutory nuisance as covered by the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and serve an abatement notice. I look forward to receiving your response. Yours sincerely NAME IN BLOCK CAPS
