Dear Supporter
A small group of residents met Dr Sahota on 15th July and had an engaging dialogue with him about their experiences of the tar odour. To move the campaign forward Dr Sahota has agreed to;
Contact both Ealing and Hillingdon council officers for an update.
Write to FM Conway to ask for a site visit, including residents, the local councillors and MPs as visitors.
Request that FM Conway pays for independent off site air quality monitoring.
Request that Ealing council, conducts air quality monitoring near Featherstone Primary School, as one of the residents was aware of the prevalent smell of tar in the playground on a recent visit.
Dr Sahota also intends to discuss FM Conway with his colleagues on the London Assembly and has been supplied with the plant's part B permit, Public Health England's monitoring report and this petition.
I was informed by the Environmental Protection Unit at Hillingdon that the Independent Consultant engaged by Hillingdon will be doing a detailed inspection of the plant and that FM Conway will be changing the carbon filter, week commencing 17th July. The reporting parameters have not been divulged to residents and may be limited to compliance with the permit and not explore the location of the plant, production volume and operating processes as contributory factors to the persistent odour.
Please continue to report any experience of odour to both Hillingdon and Ealing.
Ealing are currently compiling statistics to show that Southall residents continue to experience odour despite revisions to the plant made in 2016, so it remains to be seen if the planned change of the carbon filter will eradicate the odour off site.
