The Issue

Pregnancy is one of the most vulnerable times in a person’s life. And right now, the people carrying and caring for our future are being left in the dark.

The CDC recently changed its adult COVID-19 vaccine guidance to exclude pregnant women from its formal recommendation—without warning, without explanation, and without presenting any new evidence.

That change contradicts what’s still written across CDC information pages, and it directly conflicts with what the FDA just published in a leading medical journal: that pregnancy is still a high-risk condition for severe COVID.

This isn’t just confusing—it’s dangerous.

Studies show that pregnant women who contract COVID are three times more likely to need ICU care and nearly twice as likely to die as non-pregnant patients. COVID during pregnancy also increases the risk of stillbirth and preterm birth.

Yet the government agencies responsible for protecting our health are sending mixed signals—leaving pregnant people, doctors, and families to guess what’s safe.

We’re calling on Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and HHS to issue clear, science-based guidance now for pregnant women.

Provide updated public communications affirming the safety and benefits of maternal vaccination!

The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, OB/GYNs across the country, and the FDA all agree: vaccination during pregnancy is safe, effective, and essential to protecting moms and babies.

We need leadership that supports families—not leaves them guessing.
