HHS & CDC: Fix Vaccine Messaging for Parents—Stop the Confusion

HHS & CDC: Fix Vaccine Messaging for Parents—Stop the Confusion
The Issue
As parents, we rely on clear, consistent guidance to make informed decisions about our children’s health.
Recent abrupt changes to COVID-19 vaccine recommendations have left us confused and concerned.
On May 27, 2025, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that the CDC would no longer recommend COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children and pregnant women.
This statement was made via a social media video, without prior consultation with CDC experts or the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
Subsequently, the CDC updated its guidance, stating that children “may” receive the vaccine based on discussions with healthcare providers, while removing recommendations for pregnant women altogether. These conflicting messages have caused widespread confusion among parents and healthcare providers.
Such inconsistent communication undermines public trust and hampers our ability to protect our families.
We urge HHS and the CDC to ensure that all vaccine guidance is based on transparent, evidence-based processes involving relevant experts. Communicate policy changes clearly and consistently across all platforms.
Our children’s health depends on our ability to trust and understand public health guidance. We call on HHS and the CDC to restore clarity and confidence in their communications.
