The Issue

A child’s life should never depend on a box being checked. Florida law allows homes to be labeled “safe” without proving safety devices actually work. Hannah paid the price. This must change.

STOP “CHECK-THE-BOX” INSPECTIONS. PASS HANNAH’S LAW.

Hannah should still be here.

Her home passed inspection.

The safety devices were “there.”

The boxes were checked.

But they didn’t work.

And under current law in Florida…

they didn’t have to.

🚨 Here’s the truth no one tells you:

Right now, a home with a pool can be labeled “safe” if it has just ONE safety feature.

Not multiple layers.

Not verified protection.

Just one.

And inspectors are often only required to confirm that something is present —

not that it actually functions when a child’s life depends on it.

That means:

Alarms can have dead batteries

Gates can fail to latch

Safety devices can be improperly installed

…and the home can still pass inspection.

⚖️ That is the gap that cost Hannah her life.

This is not just one family’s tragedy.

This is a system failure.

💔 We are demanding change. We are demanding Hannah’s Law.

Hannah’s Law will:

✔ Require multiple layers of pool safety — not just one

✔ Mandate functional testing of all safety devices during inspections

✔ Require proof that devices actually work

✔ Hold inspectors accountable for negligent approvals

✔ Require landlords to maintain and test safety devices regularly

✔ Protect renters and their children

✔ Establish strict liability when safety failures lead to injury or death

🛑 Because “it was there” is not the same as “it worked.”

A checked box should never replace a child’s life.

✍️ Sign this petition. Demand accountability. Demand protection.

Demand that Florida stop allowing homes to be labeled “safe” when the very devices meant to protect children can fail without consequence.

❤️ For Hannah. And for every child who should be safe at home.

Because safety devices must function.

Because inspections must mean something.

Because one preventable death is one too many.
