SAVE OUR LAKE DAYLESFORD GEESE

SAVE OUR LAKE DAYLESFORD GEESE
The issue
Last night the Hepburn Shire Council voted to re-home the Lake Daylesford geese. They make dubious claims about impact on the natural environment and reducing amenity for community members and visitors. These claims are unproven and contradict established science and the sentiments of the community. Stakeholder consultation on this highly controversial decision was limited and disingenuous. The community, and it’s many supporters, is devastated.
The Lake Daylesford geese have been residents of this man-made lake for more than 40 years. They are much loved members of our community. A decision to move them is unspeakably cruel. Geese are highly territorial, intelligent, sensitive creatures. They are also elegant and beautiful animals considered to be amicable, loyal, caring and helpful to each other. They spend their day grazing on the grass - they do not eat fish or yabbies. They don’t fly and they know no other home.
Furthermore our geese are a significant tourism attraction. They bring great joy to Daylesford residents and to the people visiting the area.
It is also a massive waste of ratepayer’s money.
Please sign this petition to ask the council to reconsider this cruel and unnecessary decision to “re-home” our geese.
