Restore NEU Trade Union Recognition at East Sussex College Group

The Issue

The National Education Union (formally NUT and ATL)  has been the recognised trades union at the East Sussex College Group and its predecessors for over 70 years, yet this September without consultation or notice management removed union shop stewards union rights and time and have de-recognised teachers' union.

Management claim that there are other unions that staff can join, but it has been National Education Union members at the Colleges who have a long history of organising to prevent compulsory job losses and maintain decent employment conditions where others have not been able to do so. Teachers are convinced that this is the real reason for the attack on workers rights.

The attempted de-recognition  and denial of basic employment rights by the Colleges, who have in the past paid their top executives over £160,000 derive most of their funds from the tax payer and are the only maintained school/college in the County to have tried to de-recognise the Union. Their actions also run contrary international labour standards affording workers the right to form unions and engage in collective bargaining.

Please support teachers and education professionals in their campaign to defend their rights at work by signing this petition to restore full union recognition to the NEU.
