Help us Stop the proposed consumption Treatment site in Woodstock Ontario (SWPH Community)
The Issue
We the undersigned, are opposed to the proposed consumption treatment site in Woodstock Ontario.
The amount of people that will use this site is small compared to those in need, visit statistics at SWPH website to prove this, There is a large amount of people who OD at home and will not choose to use this site. In researching other sites the increase in crime, thefts and even murders in these areas are a huge concern.
We feel this is not the answer to our mental health and addiction crisis in our city.
What is needed is an inpatient mental health and addiction facility that not only offer mental health support, detox and rehab. But also life skills, transitional housing and continued support to permanent housing and more. The funds being used on the proposed consumption treatment site would be best suited used towards this facility. This facility would help at the root causes and is not just a band aid solution. A facility like this has been needed in this community for years and Now is the time to make this happen. Too many are overdosing, going to jail and dying. It’s time to put a stop to this. First the solution was methadone clinics, needle exchange and now safe injection sites, that are not proving to solve this problem. Let’s stop this and make our municipal and provincial governments
provide this much needed facility and mental health and addiction reform. We need to look at Alberta Model. This petition has been shared at the special meeting being held Sept 26/23 in opposition of the proposed injection site.
