Help Us Protect Our Neighborhood – Oppose the Overdevelopment at 576 Pleasant St
The Issue
Dear Neighbors and Stoughton Residents,
I’m reaching out as a fellow resident of Pleasant Street to ask for your support in opposing the proposed 43-unit apartment complex at 576 Pleasant Street.
This project is being labeled as “mixed-use” simply because it includes just 1,120 square feet of retail space—barely more than a small storefront. That token space is being used to attempt to bypass the zoning rules that are supposed to protect our neighborhood from high-density residential development.
This project does not belong in our residential area, and it clearly violates the spirit of Stoughton’s zoning bylaws. If allowed to proceed, it sets a dangerous precedent: one that opens the door for more oversized developments, without proper community review or accountability.
Here’s what’s at risk:
- Major increases in traffic at an already congested intersection
- Strain on utilities and infrastructure, including water pressure
- Loss of neighborhood character and peace
- Decrease in nearby home values and quality of life
We’re not against smart development—but this project is not responsible and not right for our town.
Please join us in protecting our neighborhood. Sign the petition to urge the Planning Board to deny this project and any zoning waivers. We need responsible growth—not loopholes that put profit over people.
