The Issue

We are campaigning for a safe pedestrian crossing on Church Road to help protect the children of St Matthias School and the wider community.

Since the loss of our school crossing patrol lollipop man several years ago, children crossing Church Road have been left increasingly vulnerable to traffic. Church Road is a busy route and one of the main access roads to the school. Parents, residents, and staff regularly witness dangerous near misses, and we believe action must be taken before a serious accident occurs.

Every child deserves to travel to and from school safely.

We have been working with Worcestershire County Council, our local county councillor, Chris McSweeny, and our local MP,  Dame Harriett Baldwin. While they have acknowledged our concerns, no safety measures have yet been put in place. We will continue to work with them until a safe solution is delivered for our community.

Worcestershire County Council’s assessment concluded that a formal crossing is not required because too few children are recorded as crossing at this location. However, we strongly believe that even one child being placed at unnecessary risk on a busy road is one too many.

How You Can Help

If you support our campaign, please:

- Sign and share this petition with friends, family, and members of the local community.
- Submit a request for a pedestrian crossing through the Worcestershire County Council website.
- Consider writing to our local county councillor, Chris McSweeny, and our local MP, Dame Harriett Baldwin, to share your concerns and support for this issue.
- Continue to observe the 20mph speed limit on Church Road and park responsibly to help keep everyone safe.

Together, we can act now to protect our children and make our community safer for everyone.
