PLEASE HELP US KEEP DELTA SAFE
This is Delta — a sweet, gentle 8-month-old Kelpie who was in a country pound where she was due to be euthanised before she was taken by Swan Animal Haven (SAH) . She didn’t have anyone. Just fear in her eyes and no idea what love felt like.
SAH approved us suitable adopters and handed her over to us, with no paperwork, no contract — just a promise that she would be ours if we were happy with how the trial went.
Delta came to us 3 days post-surgery and required round the clock care. Since then, Delta has grown into the most affectionate, trusting girl — the kind who now wags her tail, seeks cuddles, and finally feels safe and loved.
She’s made more progress than we ever imagined possible in the time we've had her.
Delta has now spent more of her life with us than she ever did with SAH and we’ve cared for her fully ever since.
She’s become part of our family, we even renamed her Miso.
We’ve invested everything into her, emotionally and financially, and with unwavering care. She has bonded with us deeply.
But now, SAH wants her back.
Why? Because we’re relocating interstate—a move they always knew was possible given my partner’s work in the Air Force. Yet, they are demanding Delta be returned.
Despite offering every compromise imaginable, including delaying our move, they refused. They haven't once visited to assess her welfare, and won’t engage in any reasonable dialogue.
They have breached their verbal agreement and threatened to call the police.
At a desperate attempt to prevent her from feeling abandoned and that this is all her fault, we even offered to foster her until she found a new family—anything to avoid putting her back in a kennel. But they refused.
Instead, they coldly told us to “just find another dog in NSW since the shelters are overflowing” and said they’d rather see her locked back in a kennel than stay with the only family who has ever truly loved and cared for her.
We’re sharing this because Delta is at risk of going back to the very place we have fought so hard to keep her out of!
We have given Delta nothing but love, stability and a safe space to heal.
Please help us fight for her. Share this. Speak up. We don’t want to lose her!
Delta has come so far in a stable, loving home, returning to the shelter now would likely mean she will regress, feel abandoned, and face an uncertain future in the kennels. It would be nothing but distressing and destabilising for her.
Please help us hold Swan Animal Haven accountable!
