Help Us Fight An Unjust Law

The Issue

My stepdad's property was stolen from him by a known family member. They forged Maria Jasso's, an 83-year-old woman who was dying, signature and gifted herself all of Maria Jasso's property. This is not just our personal tragedy; it is a loophole in the law that can affect anyone. In Texas, there are no requirements for witnesses when notarizing Gift Warranty Deeds. This lack of oversight opens the door to fraudulent activities and leaves vulnerable individuals unprotected.

According to the National Notary Association, many states require two credible witnesses during notarization to prevent such fraudulent activities (source: National Notary Association). However, Texas is not among them. The absence of this requirement has led to an increase in cases like ours, where properties are stolen through forgery.

We propose that all Gift Warranty Deeds should require two witnesses when being notarized in order to be valid. This will provide an additional layer of security against fraud and protect rightful owners from losing their properties unjustly.

Let us ensure that no more families have to go through what we did due to this legal loophole. Please sign this petition urging lawmakers in Texas to mandate two witnesses for the notarization process of Gift Warranty Deeds.
