Petition updateEnd "Honour" Killings in PakistanNo forgiveness! Qandeel Baloch’s killer will face charges
The Price of Forgiveness with Equality Now
Jul 19, 2016
We were all devastated by Friday’s news of yet another life violently taken in the name of ‘honour’. Qandeel Baloch, 26-year-old Pakistani model and social media star, was drugged and strangled by her brother Waseem Azeem who proudly admitted that he killed her because “she brought dishonour on the family name” with her social media activity. Just last week, the outspoken Baloch had posted: As women we must stand up for ourselves. As women we must stand up for each other...As a women we must stand up for justice. I believe I am a modern day feminist. I believe in equality. I need not to choose what type of women should be. I don't think there is any need to label ourselves just for sake of society. I am just a women with free thoughts free mindset and I LOVE THE WAY I AM. :) ‪#‎QandeelBaloch ‪#‎I_Am_The_Best ‪#‎Stubborn_For_My_Dreams‪#‎One_Women_Army ‪#‎High_Targets ‪#‎DestinationBollywood‪#‎Will_Do_Things_My_Own_Way ‪#‎Just_Watch_Me But, we are heartened that Qandeel’s killer will be prosecuted! On Monday, the police announced that the State will be the main complainant in the case – meaning that the family cannot pardon the brother who killed her. This is a significant step and we praise the government for its intervention in this case. However, the law still needs to be changed so that no one who kills a woman in the name of 'honour' can go free. Please continue to call on the Pakistan government (and share this petition!) to bring the anti-honour crimes legislation up for a vote as soon as possible so that perpetrators are brought to justice!
