Help Us Eat Healthy Without Going Broke - Lower Grocery Prices.

The Issue

Like so many others, I go to the grocery store and stare at the shelves wondering how I’ll make it through the week. Fresh fruits? Too expensive. Vegetables? Out of budget. Instant noodles, canned food, chips, and processed food? Sadly, the only affordable option.

I never imagined I’d have to choose between health and survival. But here we are, in a world where an apple can cost $8 a bag, while a bag of chips is $1.99. It’s a gut-wrenching choice no one should have to make And it’s not just me. Families. Seniors. Students. Single moms. People working multiple jobs. We’re all stuck in this impossible situation where eating healthy feels like a luxury we can’t afford.

And here’s the truth no one wants to say out loud:

People are stealing groceries. Not out of greed—but out of hunger.

Nobody wakes up wanting to steal food. But when someone can't feed their child or themselves, what option is left? The rising grocery prices are not just hurting budgets—they’re hurting human dignity.

We all work hard, give our best, yet the dream of a healthy meal seems unreachable most days. Grocery prices have surged while paychecks remain stagnant, making fresh vegetables and nutritious snacks unattainable luxuries.

To grocery chains, suppliers, and policymakers:

Instead of investing in loss prevention or chasing shoplifters, consider lowering prices. The money you're losing to theft is a symptom—

The cause is unaffordable food. Fix the root. Watch the difference.

Grocery prices need to be more accommodating, so people like me can make healthier choices without burning a hole in their pockets. Access to affordable and nutritious food is a basic human right that should not be determined by the size of one's wallet.

We can address this looming crisis by implementing policies to subsidise fresh produce and essential groceries. Encouraging local farms and markets to offer fair pricing and promoting food cooperatives can be viable solutions. Additionally, offering tax incentives to grocery stores that reduce prices on healthy foods and basics can create a ripple effect, encouraging more stores to follow suit.

We’re not asking for luxury—we’re asking for affordability.

Food is a basic need. Not a privilege.

Help us create change. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers and grocery chains to take immediate action in reducing grocery prices so everyone can eat healthy without going broke.
