The Issue

The purpose of this petition is to garner support for Dr. William Lane Craig to appear as a prospective guest on The Joe Rogan Experience.

Throughout the years, Joe has been highly critical of Christianity, often expressing his objections to the faith through falsifiable assertions, though, to his credit, he has softened his position in recent years, largely due to his relationship with Jordan Peterson who, ironically, doesn't seem to be a Christian, but I digress.

To be clear, the objective of such a dialogue is not to have a debate, nor to clobber Joe with facts, rather, the goal would be to have a cordial discussion whereby Dr. Craig could share an intellectual defense of Christianity.  Given his wide-ranging, erudite background, such a discussion would not merely have to be honed in on theology, but it could branch out into culture, politics, philosophy, and science.

With no disrespect to Joe, it is evident that he has not been exposed to the intellectual side of Christianity, based on his common, falsifiable objections, nor does he seem aware of fact that there is a wealth of philosophical arguments for the existence of God, as well as historical evidence that undergirds a rational belief in Jesus’ bodily resurrection.

Of the few Christians that Joe has had on his podcast — none of which have been trained apologists — they have not been able to provide any sort of apologetics, or cogent arguments, the rare time that anything theological surfaced in discussion, thus, never raising any serious challenges to Joe’s beliefs and presuppositions.

Conversely, Joe has had a plethora of new atheists on his program including, Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Lawrence Krauss, Michael Shermer, and Neil deGrasse Tyson, just to name a handful.  When discussing Christianity with said guests, the conversation has been exclusively one-sided with no countervailing arguments or contrary point of view being considered or discussed, thereby reinforcing the biases of all those involved in these respective discussions, as well as the non-believers that comprise much — if not most — of Joe’s audience.

With that established, it is high time that Joe consider the prospect of holding a conversation with an eminent defender of Christianity.  There are multiple benefits that such a dialogue could entail.  As I previously mentioned, Joe has seemingly had no exposure to the intellectual side of Christianity — Jordan Peterson being the closest thing resembling that — thus, having a discussion with a well-versed, articulate exponent of the faith would serve to enlighten Joe by gently presenting him with the cumulative evidence in support of its central claims.

At the very least, providing him with this information would be an educational experience and could help to bolster his knowledge on the subject, giving him greater insight, perspective, and respect for Christianity, even if he ultimately doesn’t embrace that worldview.

To the critics who are inclined to say that Joe has no interest whether or not Christianity is true, that could be the case, but who is to say that his sentiments wouldn’t change and that he wouldn’t be more open to embracing Christianity if he felt that there were good reasons for its primary claims.

On the other hand, even if Joe showed no interest in becoming a Christian, regardless of what the evidence suggests, his audience would still be exposed to arguments and evidence that they have likely never heard, thereby arousing the curiosity of at least some of them, hopefully inclining them toward their own research, which could eventually lead to some conversions, down the road.

Either way, this seems like a positive idea to entertain, as a clear Gospel presentation can accompany arguments in defense of Christianity.  Joe and the secular/non-Christian portion of his audience can freely choose what to do with that whatever they want.

If there is any hope of getting Craig on Rogan, I feel that this is probably the best strategy, because instead of receiving maybe a few dozen guest requests via Joe’s website by those who follow the proper procedure — as opposed to sending Joe tweets or messages on Instagram (I'm not sure if he reads or personally responds to such things, due to the high volume that he receives) — such a venture could possibly accrue hundreds, if not thousands, of signatures, which might cause Joe’s guest booker to oblige our collective request, if I were to send him this link, assuming that it is well-supported.

In that event, the guest booker could not help but notice the potentially huge desire for Rogan to chat with Craig.  If this were to occur, yet Craig was still not given an invitation by Joe’s personnel, then we will know that there simply is no desire for them to speak with someone like Craig, and we can relinquish that dream.

Please add your signature if this is something that you would like to help bring to fruition, and please share this petition with anyone that might wish to see this happen.  Thank you and God bless.

Atheist Philosophers and Academics on Dr. William Lane Craig

P.S. There used to be a link on Joe’s website whereby one could fill out a request form for a desired guest to appear on his podcast, however, it seems to no longer be there.  Please fill this out if you can find it.

Additionally, someone on Facebook suggested that people request Dr. Craig through the booking email, which appears to be jrebookings@joerogan.net (this might be outdated, though).  If anyone has more accurate contact information and other methods with respect to furthering the reach of this endeavour, please share your suggestions.

Edit: Here are some tips on how to contact The Joe Rogan Experience: https://www.change.org/p/help-to-get-dr-william-lane-craig-on-the-joe-rogan-experience/u/32125608

Please consider doing something similar to this petition with regard to other Christian apologists that you would like to appear on The Joe Rogan Experience.  Michael Jones (InspiringPhilosophy) would be another excellent guest, for example.

A couple of months ago, Michael responded, via a YouTube short, to an old clip of Rogan’s, whereby Joe made some demonstrably false claims about Christianity.  Michael explained that he would love to come on Joe’s podcast to discuss the evidence for Christianity, and he encouraged his audience to share that clip with Rogan.

One can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYX-mnai1Bo

Unfortunately, it appears that this idea has been unsuccessful, as I assume that most people merely sent Joe a link to the aforementioned clip through his social media accounts, causing him to likely never see it, since he is already bombarded with messages on a daily basis, given his huge popularity.  Something like this petition, or filling out a guest nomination form on Joe’s website (if that option even still exists), would probably gain more steam and would be highly noticed by Joe’s guest booker.

Lastly, thanks to Cameron Bertuzzi of Capturing Christianity, and Matt Fradd of Pints with Aquinas, for their efforts to promote this petition online.  Please watch these YouTube videos that they made and share them with others, as well as on social media:
