Gentoo Penguins
Gentoo penguins are very harmless, little birds. Their scientific name is Pygoseclic papua. They usually eat a mix of crustaceans, small fishes, and squid. They rarely live near the NZs’ fresh waters. They breed on many Sub-Antarctic islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. They are important to Aotearoa because it is part of their culture and tradition.NZ has the most UNIQUE type of gentoo penguins in the world. They are the fastest-swimming penguins in the world.
Explanation of threat:
But sadly they are near threatened. Skuas eat the eggs of gentoo penguins. Sheathbills, caracaras (falcons), kelp gulls, giant petrels, and feral cats prey on young birds. Leopard seals prey on older birds. The warm temperatures can decrease the amount of ice in the Antarctic. Their homes are constructed with pebbles and an often stolen by other birds. Their homes are also being washed out by the tides at night. The loss of their nest and habitat development is really bad for their life. The gentoo penguin population is estimated to be around 774,000. Human activity has changed the diets of Gentoo penguins over the past century. Sea lions, Weddell seals, leopard seals, and killer whales eat these endangered species of penguins.

Make a difference in the ocean
Let's show the ocean that we're not predators and help them by creating marine reserves and protecting many species of animals including gentoos. We will let them have the food they want for them to survive.
Ending
Together, we can make a difference in the world of animals and people. Let's unite the animals and let them live in peace, use single-use plastic, and don’t overfish to maintain our precious ocean. Because we don’t have another world to live in.
