Help the average Joe on the Road

Help the average Joe on the Road
The Issue
Are you an average Joe on the road? Are you a Small Business Owner in California? Then this petition is for you!
California has one of the most regulated roadways in the country. The vehicle code is larger than three bibles put together. This petition is aimed at some particular vehicle codes that criminalize the roadway for the average Joe. These vehicle codes also significantly raise cost for Small Business Owners in California.
In today's day and age we have had significant technology advances. It is time that our vehicle code advances with these technologies.
Today we have pickup trucks that safely transport a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of up to 40,000lbs depending on the model. Someone might think that is a lot of weight for a pickup. But if your break it down, you’ll see its pretty average.
Pickup can weight up to 10,000lbs. Trailer can weight up to 10,000lbs. The items on the trailer can weight up 20,000lbs.
Today’s vehicle code states that the average Joe with a Class C license cannot drive one vehicle with a (GVW) of 10,001lbs or greater. Average Joe also cannot drive a vehicle that is towing a trailer that weighs more than 10,000lbs. There is one exception. If you have a 5th wheel RV trailer, Average Joe can pull up to 15,000lbs.
Luckily RV Trailer companies lobbied to insure that we can pull their trailers down the road. To the Average Joe, it doesn’t make a difference if it’s a RV Trailer behind him or his tractor, fence post, forklift, household items, his race car, etc.
Today's 1 ton pickup trucks are rated to safely transport a GVW of 30,000lbs. The average Joe can operate these weights safely without any special training.
In today’s vehicle code, the only way you can legally transport a weight of 10,001lbs or greater is to retain a Class A Commercial Driver License. Once you cross that line into commercial licensing a long list of other items you will also have to retain to transport these low weights. Average Joe will have to pay anywhere from $8,000-$10,000 per vehicle, per year!!! Is that fair to the Average Joe or Small Business Owners? NO, it is not!
Average Joe doesn't own a business and all he wants to do is move around his items without threat from Department of Transportation of impounding his vehicle and paying very high fines. Should a small business owner that operates a small pickup truck pay these high costs in commercializing? No, they already have high Taxes, Workers Comp, Insurances. Californians already pay the highest vehicle registration to use the roads. No wonder these small businesses either shut down or move out of California.
This petition is addressed to our law makers in California. Let them know we want the laws to help us, not make us criminals.
Change the current vehicle code to allow Class C Driver License to operate a vehicle with a GVW up to 26,001lbs or a combined weight with a trailer 40,000 GVW. Also with a combined length of 60 feet.
Please share this petition with every small business owner you know and every Average Joe. Thank you you for helping the Average Californian.
