Today has been heartening and inspiring. We are making progress.
I called each and every Supervisor and left a message, or talked with them. I had a long conversation with Rex Bohn and with Michelle Bushnell (who returned my call quickly).
Here's what I came away with:
- They want to know what we think. Call them! Tell them what you feel. They need more contact from us. Ask how you can move our goals forward. (Be respectful of course.)
- Supervisor Bushnell said there will probably be an agenda item next week that will require County employees to either be vaccinated or tested regularly. That's a step in the right direction. She was supportive of it but said that she will vote as her constituents feel as that's her job. She said if enough people reached out to her (and the other supervisors), it will probably move forward. DO THAT!
- Supervisor Bohn said that since this is a health emergency, Dr. Hoffman has the "final say" as to what policies are put in place. He suggested calling him and letting him know what we feel and asking what can be done. (707-445-6200)
Overall, I was encouraged by what I heard and how appreciative both supervisors I talked to were about my call. The reality is we won't get everything we want, but we have to continue to push small steps at least.
The reality is we all want a happier, healthier, safer, prosperous Humboldt County. That's our united goal. The roads might differ but we need to keep moving forward.
Please call them. Please share this petition. We're over 300 now. Let's keep it moving.
