The Issue

This petition is reaching out to all citizens, particularly in the Carlisle area for their help to support residents campaigning to stop a development project of an all-night petrol station and coffee/retail shop.

The submitted development is proposed to be built on a Grade 3 high-level floodplain zone, off Warwick Road.—a region still scarred from the devastating flooding caused by Storm Desmond in 2015 and prior to this a major flood in 2005.

There is anxious concern about increase in the harmful exhaust fumes affecting air quality, to potential damage or loss of the trees, which are a vital part of our local ecosystem. The area is home to a variety of flora and fauna, and there is concern of an impact on the ecology and biodiversity of wildlife habitats.

Other concerns are public safety, the influx of vehicles adding to our already A69 Warwick road into Carlisle, and traffic conditions that those who already drive on Warwick road have to put up with.

Pedestrian safety is a worry, particularly for children walking to and from school, the disabled, and the elderly who have to cross over the road, traffic lights, and also there is concern regarding road drainage.

This is a plea for rational planning and development that respects the environment and the community's needs. We need to send a strong message to the Cumberland Council planning and development control to express this location is unsuitable for such a project and that expressed concern is the land should be left alone now and in the future.

Please sign this petition to voice your opposition to this development and protect our community, environment, and future. Together, the whole community in the Carlisle area can make their concerns heard and hopefully prevent this development project from proceeding and make a difference collectively for the local community.

Hard copies for people to sign will be placed in the local shops and community centre, we need your help.

Thank you.
