Four members of the Southampton Town Council led by the Town Supervisor, disregarded concerns raised by their Planning Board and Constituent's: voting 5-0 to endorse the zoning change of the Shinnecock Canal. Their primary reason, according to the 27east.com website, that "it might be an economic injection for the business interests of Hampton Bays."
Prior to the vote, most Residents voiced opposition, passionately, including (also copied from the 27east.com website): “This approval will be forever,” said Al Algieri. “Aesthetically, this is a disaster. Vote no, vote by the experts, and you’ll be doing something for the future of Hampton Bays, rather than giving something away.”
