Am happy to invite your participation in my online project (months in the making): "Sketches of Local History” is my medium for presenting alternative ideas for development (or restoration) of the Shinnecock Canal, the gateway to our community.
“Sketches of Local History” references the paintings of the Canal in Shinnecock Hills by plein air artist William Merritt Chase, when he lived here (nearby my home) with his family and taught art, as a medium for studying development in our area.
This public, freely accessed, art project provides each (and everyone) the opportunity to picture the Shinnecock Canal as they want it to be: http://shinnecockcanal.com/shinnecock_canal/how_to_participate.html
My project website includes extensive information (ranging from the estuaries to salt marshes to the Dongan Patent) to educate and bring participants through the planning process. As well as maps (historical and current) and templates for the Sketches. and finally a section where each Sketch (an option to include a brief statement) will be posted.
I’m excited to send you the link:

And look forward to your response. Everyone - young and old - of all professions are welcome to join in. The goal is to have an extensive archive of individual visions of what the Shinnecock Canal can be…so that we drive the development… provide the shape and form and become active participants in our community.
A project that can be applied to any and all communities advocating environmental standards by referencing paintings and artworks made by their local artists.
cheers!
