The Trent Fleming School of Nursing (TFSON) has been offering Honduras international clinical placement since 2008. It is a life-changing educational opportunity that provides 2nd year nursing students with hands-on experience, cultural competence and meaningful community engagement. It also teaches students the relevance and importance of social determinants of health, rural health, and working in under-resourced communities. 

It benefits both students and the communities served and has proven to be financially sustainable. It helps students learn the importance of leadership and advocacy, as well as equity and social justice. Removing this placement would eliminate one of the most impactful learning experiences in our program. This placement equips students with countless tools the will use forever in their career. Many students choose this program solely for this opportunity. Additionally, many 1st year students who may have chosen Trent would have entered the program understanding this was a placement option. There has been no communication to students or alumni regards in this. We urge the administration to reinstate the International Honduras placement for future students.
