Anyone who lives in or around Schenectady, NY is most likely familiar with the Nicholaus building. It has stood at the corner of State St and Erie Blvd for over a century and is one of the most recognizable buildings in the city. Recently, work was being done on tearing down some neighboring buildings to make way for new development when disaster struck. The work being completed at the site caused a shift of the Nicholaus building and it has been in danger ever since. Despite calls by some for an evaluation to be completed to ensure an incident like this would not happen, the city gave the go-ahead for the demolition of the historic buildings next to the Nicholaus building. We need to keep pressure on the city to save this historical gem, or else we may lose it forever.
