HELP SAVE SC JOHNSON AND THE VIABILITY OF ITS OPERATION IN BRANTFORD

The Issue

We, the undersigned members of the community and concerned citizens, hereby express our strong support for SC Johnson, a cornerstone of our local economy and a vital contributor to our community's well-being. We urge the authorities to reconsider the rezoning proposal for the property adjacent to SC Johnson's Webster Street facility in Brantford's Holmedale neighborhood.

SC Johnson has been an integral part of our community for over a century. The company's dedication to its employees, and community development has made a lasting positive impact on the lives of our residents for over 100 years. SC Johnson has not only provided employment opportunities but has also contributed significantly to various community projects that have enriched the lives of residents.

We are deeply concerned about the potential rezoning of the property at 58 Morrell Street from industrial to residential use. We understand that the property developer, Rosart Bucci Group, seeks to construct townhouse dwellings at this location.

SC Johnson's Chairman and CEO, Fisk Johnson, has articulated valid concerns about the rezoning proposal. He has emphasized the adverse effects of residential development in close proximity to industrial facilities, particularly in terms of noise, traffic, and other routine manufacturing activities. We share his concern, especially for the potential impact on the quality of life for future residents and their children.

It is imperative that the decision-makers take into consideration the invaluable insights provided by SC Johnson. We believe that a comprehensive land use compatibility study is essential before making a decision on rezoning. This study would help determine if residential use is suitable for the proposed site and if it would be compatible with the existing industrial operations of SC Johnson. Additionally, we encourage open communication between the city officials and SC Johnson to find solutions that safeguard the interests of all stakeholders.

We recognize the city's need for development and the importance of housing solutions. However, we must ensure that such development does not come at the expense of established businesses that have played a pivotal role in our community's growth and prosperity. SC Johnson's long-standing contributions to our community and its ability to expand and grow in the future should not be jeopardized by ill-considered rezoning decisions.

Therefore, we respectfully petition the Brantford City Council and the Ontario Land Tribunal to carefully review the concerns raised by SC Johnson, consider the potential consequences of the rezoning proposal, and explore alternatives that balance the needs of the community with the preservation of SC Johnson's industrial operations. Let us work together to find a solution that maintains the harmony of our neighbourhood, protects the livelihoods of our fellow residents, and ensures the continued success of SC Johnson in our community.
