Help Save Mercury Cinema
Why this petition matters

DON’T LET IT BE ‘LIGHTS OUT’ FOR MERCURY CX!
The iconic 30-year-old Mercury Cinema in the heart of Adelaide’s West End Arts Precinct needs your support!
The recently rebranded Mercury CX has had successive funding cuts at both state and federal levels over the past seven years.
The loss of cinema revenue during the first two years of the pandemic has pushed the organisation to the wall.
The Mercury CX requires between $1.2m - $1.4m to keep its doors open. There is a current shortfall of $700,000.
If the shortfall is not met by government or philanthropic means, it will be lights out for Mercury CX by Christmas.
As well as the job losses within the organisation, the knock-on effect for the broader film industry – which has had its own body-blows from the pandemic – will be devastating.
The ‘filmmakers cinema’, Mercury CX also runs industry programs that are a vital starting point for producers, directors, writers, and crew, preparing them and guiding them into the screen industry.
The operational funds needed are not much in the scheme of things but will ensure a wealth of cultural engagement and industry skills development can continue through this unique not-for-profit organisation.
Your signature will add weight to our lobbying...and help keep the lights on!
