Help save Diwey from unjust breed specific legislation

The Issue

Diwey, our beloved family dog, has been unjustly seized and held in police kennels since November due to breed-specific legislation in the UK. Although he was never a threat to anyone, this legislation considers him illegal simply because of his breed. Diwey's gentle nature and loyalty have been proven by an independent assessment, which he passed with glowing colors, confirming his status as a loving and well-behaved pet. Yet, due to outdated and discriminatory laws, he still faces the threat of euthanasia.  https://www.facebook.com/diwey161124?

The United Kingdom's Dangerous Dogs Act, which was enacted in 1991, aims to protect the public from aggressive dogs by banning certain breeds. However, this blanket legislation does not take into account individual dog behaviors and unfairly targets dogs like Diwey, who have done nothing wrong. Thousands of families across the UK face heart-wrenching situations simply because their pets fit certain physical characteristics deemed dangerous by this legislation.

We urge lawmakers to amend the Dangerous Dogs Act by focusing on the behavior of individual animals rather than their breed. Breed-specific legislation does not effectively reduce dog attacks or make communities safer, as shown by multiple studies. For instance, the American Veterinary Medical Association suggests that targeting specific breeds does not address the root causes of dog aggression. Furthermore, organizations like Dogs Trust and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) advocate for law reform, suggesting education and owner responsibility as more effective measures.

Please join us in calling on the UK Parliament to reconsider this antiquated law and allow for a more just approach that protects both public safety and innocent dogs like Diwey. By signing this petition, you will help prevent other families from experiencing such painful separations and save our loyal companion from an undeserved fate.

Your support can make a difference in Diwey's life and countless others affected by illegitimate BSL policies. Sign now to advocate for change and to bring Diwey home where he belongs. Together, let's push to reform an outdated law and make a stand for fair treatment of innocent dogs.
