HELP SAVE A LAKE! Sign to HELP raise awareness about Human Right Issues in Owens Valley!

The Issue

We have the power to restore Owens Lake and raise awareness about the corruption caused by the LA Aqueduct. We have the power to influence others about the thousands of gallons of water that are wasted every single day in the extraction of this lake. We have the power to honor the original name "Patsiata" given to the lake by the Paiute and Shoshone Tribe. All you need to do is click.

The image on the cover of this petition is an Owens Valley Sucker-fish which continues to be hunted on a daily basis. This is an example of wildlife that used to be thriving in the Owens Valley area but is now endangered (along with the Owens Pupfish).

HELP SAVE A LAKE!!!!

I am looking for enough signatures and support to raise awareness about the many issues that Owens Lake, a dry lake in southern California, faces. If this gets enough signatures, we can raise awareness about how Owens Lake could be restored as a reservoir and water source to help us through the ever-lasting drought in CA. Right now, it is a completely dry lake due to companies extracting its water for the Los Angeles Aqueduct, for millions of people in the greater LA area to waste. This corruption is what caused much of the wildlife of the lake to die out. In the below paragraph, I have stated how we can sign to honor the original name for the lake given by the Shoshone and Paiute tribes, which was "Patsiata."

Patsiata, more commonly known as Owens Lake, is a mostly dry lake in Owens Valley, California. "Patsiata" is the original name of the lake given by the Paiute and Shoshone tribe. The name Owens Lake was given in honor of Richard Owens, who NEVER set foot in the valley!  It is a natural lake but was dried due to water extraction from the Los Angeles Aqueduct. This aqueduct was completed in 1913, by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Patsiata used to be the second largest lake in California. After the water was extracted from it bit by bit every year, it eventually dried. It was thriving up until the aqueduct was built but then dried up in a mere 13 years by 1926. Many species of water wildlife were lost, due to both extraction of water, but additionally, the use of harmful chemicals used in the beautiful waters of the lake!

Since the lake is completely dry, dust from the base has been kicked up and blown by the wind. This makes Owens Lake the LARGEST SOURCE of dust pollution in NORTH AMERICA. This is a direct result of the extraction of water.
