I have just written to the European Commission as well. Both to the Environment and the Climate Action departments.
What is different in this letter (from the letter sent to the European Parliament, UN, 11 Environmental Ministries from Russia and the neighbouring countries) is that I added two legally binding instruments that the E.C. could actively use in this situation.
The legally binding instruments are the FLEGT and EUTR. They are set in place in order to give legislative grounds for the members states of the EU, as well as international states trading wood from or within the EU, to respect regulations or face the consequences.
Also, I continue to connect with people from Russia as well as neighbouring countries in order to find out how we can help turn this situation around. The progression is slow, people are still fearful or discouraged the situation can be straightened.
I say let us keep the positive attitude.
And let us share this petition with other people.
Thank you.
