I've been following the story daily. It's getting more international coverage. I am preparing to write to even more non-governmental organisations but also other structures around. To call for an international diplomatic dialogue (if this has not yet been opened) and to call for any type of international support.
To send people. To send money. To send work or protection materials for the firefighters who have volunteered to go on the burning fields.
Why get so activated?!
First, not just because the forest fire in Siberia is the biggest thing that has ever happened... with a massive impact on an big ecosystem that is essential to the wellbeing of the planet, but because it's not a unique phenomenon on Earth right now. Significant forest fires are happening in other parts of the Arctic also.
Secondly, even if there are forest fires every year on Earth, climatologists who have been following the phenomena have stated that this year the forest fires have been going on for too long: 2 months. And the surface burned has gotten extremely big compared to other forest fires in the past.
And third, but perhaps the most important reason to get people and structures to act, the immense mass of smoke in the air will definitely impact people's health and the economy.
The global air quality will be affected. Also, international transportation might be affected. I wished it didn't have to get so big for people to get activated, but sadly this is how we still function. When it hurts us directly and in our faces, that's when we get moving on a bigger scale.
I keep at it. I appreciate any shares & signatures.
As soon as I get any sign from the NGOs that I have contacted, I will let you know.
Thank you and let's keep an attitude as constructive as we can.
