Help Restore Lake Neatahwanta!

Help Restore Lake Neatahwanta!
The Issue
As a resident of Oswego county, I am calling on our community and elected officials to support the restoration of Lake Neatahwanta. This initiative is vital for protecting public health and wildlife by addressing the harmful algae blooms (HABs) that have plagued our lake for years. Restoring Lake Neatahwanta will also bring significant economic and social benefits, making our community more vibrant and attractive for residents and potential newcomers, especially with the upcoming Micron development in the Town of Clay.
Key Issues:
Public Health and Environmental Impact:
HABs produce toxins that threaten both humans and wildlife. The ongoing pollution has hindered our community from fully enjoying the lake, making it crucial to address the phosphorus pollution that degrades water quality. A restored lake will create a safer, healthier environment for future generations.
Personal Impact and Recreation:
Many residents, including myself, grew up unable to swim in Lake Neatahwanta due to water quality concerns. Restoring the lake would open up opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating, greatly enhancing the quality of life for current residents and encouraging families to settle in our area.
Economic and Social Benefits:
A revitalized lake would attract new residents and businesses, especially as we anticipate population growth from Micron’s development. It would serve as a centerpiece for local investment, boosting tourism and enhancing economic vitality in our community.
Development Opportunities:
The City of Fulton and the Town of Granby are poised to benefit from the lake's restoration. Existing parks, a tourism center, and a campground along the lakeshore could be revitalized, enhancing the area's appeal and creating long-term growth opportunities.
Call to Action:
I encourage our community to unite and push for funding to restore Lake Neatahwanta. This project is essential for improving public health, enhancing recreational opportunities, and driving economic growth. Let’s work together to unlock the lake’s potential and create a brighter future for Fulton.
